Hydromat Selection Guide

What is a Hydromat?

A hydromat (also known as a presscontrol, pressure manager, or electronic pump controller) is a device that automatically starts and stops a water pump based on pressure and flow changes. It protects the pump from dry running and ensures efficient system operation.

Standard models operate with a start/stop system, while advanced inverter-driven models provide constant pressure, improving comfort and energy efficiency.

Keywords: what is hydromat, presscontrol meaning, electronic pump controller, pressure manager, constant pressure booster system

Where is a Hydromat Used?

  • Residential booster systems (homes & villas)
  • Garden irrigation (drip irrigation, sprinkler systems)
  • Well and borehole pumps
  • Rainwater harvesting systems
  • RO system feeding lines
  • Small commercial and industrial water supply

Keywords: hydromat applications, presscontrol for well pump, irrigation pump controller, booster pump control

How Does a Hydromat Work?

Start/Stop Presscontrol

The system activates the pump when pressure drops below the preset level and stops it when flow ceases.

Dry Run Protection

Detects water shortage and shuts down the pump to prevent damage.

Inverter Hydromat

Adjusts pump speed continuously to maintain constant water pressure, offering quieter operation and lower energy consumption.

Keywords: how hydromat works, presscontrol working principle, dry run protection, inverter pump controller

How to Choose a Hydromat (Step-by-Step)

  1. Application type (home, irrigation, well pump, tank supply)
  2. Motor power compatibility (kW/A rating, single or three phase)
  3. Required pressure (height + losses + usage pressure)
  4. Operating type (standard presscontrol or inverter constant pressure)
  5. Minimum flow & short cycling prevention
  6. Protection features (dry run, auto reset, anti-cycling)
  7. Installation compatibility (connection size, flow direction, valves)

Keywords: hydromat selection, presscontrol setup, pump controller sizing, booster system design

Quick Calculation Example (2-Storey House)

Target pressure: 2.5 bar
ارتفاع: 10 m ≈ 1 bar
Line losses: 0.5 bar

👉 Required pressure: ~4 bar

  • Presscontrol: Adjust start pressure accordingly
  • Inverter: Set constant pressure between 3.5 – 4 bar

Keywords: hydromat pressure calculation, booster pump pressure setting

Common Hydromat Problems & Solutions

1. Pump Frequently Starts/Stops (Short Cycling)

Cause: leaks, faulty check valve, low flow usage
Solution: fix leaks, add expansion tank

2. Pump Not Starting

Cause: no power, dry run lock, airlock
Solution: check power, reset, purge air

3. Pump Does Not Stop

Cause: flow sensor issue, leakage
Solution: clean sensor, check system

4. Frequent Dry Run Error

Cause: low water level, suction leaks
Solution: check well yield and suction line

5. Pressure Fluctuations

Cause: incorrect settings or system design
Solution: adjust pressure or use inverter system

6. Noise / Water Hammer

Cause: sudden start/stop
Solution: use expansion tank or soft start

7. Low Pressure

Cause: incorrect pump selection
Solution: recalculate and upgrade system
