Flow rate is the amount of water passing through the pipe.

Flow velocity is the speed at which water moves inside the pipe.

Pipe diameter can be calculated using this formula.


Sample Pipe Diameter Calculation

Example:

Flow rate = 10 m³/h
Flow velocity = 1.5 m/s

First, we convert the flow rate to seconds.

10 m³/h = 0.00278 m³/s

Substituting into the formula:

D = √((4×0.00278) / (3.14×1.5))

The result is approximately:

D ≈ 0.049 m

This means approximately a DN50 pipe should be used.


Why Is Pipe Diameter Important?
